Can you help a child struggling with their reading?


Did you know that 44%  of children did not reach the expected standard in reading for the new SATS in Wigan.


Beanstalk, children’s literacy charity are trying to engage and recruit volunteers from across the Wigan to help children with their reading.


They have schools in areas of Wigan such as Hindley, Orrell and Newtown  all looking for volunteers.

LESFEST – Fund raising event.

Details: Les Hilton, one half of the Wigan folk duo Chonkinfeckle is currently recuperating at home following on from two stokes he sufferd. He is self employed, so is currently unable to work, play music or earn any income.
A host of musical friends from around the country are taking over the Bellingham Hotel on Sunday 19th Feb for ‘Lesfest’. Some of the worlds leading ukulele artists as well as a host of local talent will be performing from 2:00pm.
There will be an open mic session, Raffle, Auction and a host of other great things happening on the day! It is FREE entry, but there will be buckets for donating.

Vintage and Retro Fair

Details: Vibrant Vintage are hosting two vintage and retro craft fairs at the lovely Georgian House Hotel in Blackrod. There will be a wide range of stalls selling vintage and retro clothing, accessories, home wear, furniture, jewellery, collectables and china dating from 1920’s – 1980’s. As well as shabby chic furniture, handmade jewellery, gifts, cakes, cards and retro crafts. Plus live entertainment at each event from Bexi Owen. There is a small admission fee of £1 (children under 12 free), but this promises to be a great day out for all the family.
