History of the Lancashire dialect

Join us for a trip down memory lane.

SID CALDERBANK – The Mon for Dialect and Song in Lancashire is giving a nostalgic and entertaining talk involving songs, stories and poems about Lancashire Dialect over the last 500 years.

Everyone is welcome, cost is £2.50 per person, refreshments are available.

Handmade Fair
Date: 16th April 2017
Details: Vibrant Vintage are hosting 5 handmade fairs at the Mercure Georgian House, Blackrod, Bolton. This is a brand new venue for 2017. The fairs have a wide selection of stalls selling handmade cushions, cakes, chocolate, crafts, paper craft, jewellery, knitted items, pens, wood craft, button craft, jams, cards and much more.

All items sold are made by the stall holder meaning that this is a true handmade fair with lots of talented people. Plus there will be craft demonstrations, such as rag rug or spinning guild. Finally, you can take a break from shopping by sitting back and relaxing with a cup of tea and cake at the venues café.

Boomin – Live at the DW Stadium

Details: Boomin are a fun, unpredictable, epic rock n roll band from Wigan.

This incredible live band has personality, energy and sass by the metric ton. Their presence brings instant vibrancy to a room; even before they’ve played a note. They bring an element of anarchic fun to every event.

The event includes: 2 Course Buffet, Live Entertainment, Disco with DJ & Bar Service.

Tickets are priced at £25.00 per person.

Stroke Awareness Day
Date: 22nd April 2017
Details: Saturday 22nd April, 10am – 4pm

Organised by the Rotary Club of Wigan in conjunction with
the Stroke Association UK.

The Mayor of Wigan, Cllr. Ron Conway will be in attendance.

Medically trained members of the Rotary Club of Wigan will be offering free blood pressure checks. High blood pressure, which is not always recognised by the patient, is the biggest risk factor in the cause of strokes, and can be easily treated and controlled by medication.

Everyone who participates will be given their readings and advice on the need to consult their GP for a further check if necessary.

Let’s Celebrate Personal Assistants

This FREE event is open to individual employers, families, personal assistants, organisations working with individual employers, commissioners, councils, CCGs and the wider voluntary sector.

Learn from experts in their field, who will be running workshops throughout the day:

• Recruiting Personal Assistants – from a micro to a macro level.
• How Personal Assistants can do an apprenticeship in health and social care
• Funding the training for Personal Assistants.
• Planning for the future – how families can ensure they create a sustainable support network around their loved one.
• How to be a great individual employer – your rights and responsibilities.
• Keeping Personal Assistants person-centred.
